We are proud to announce the launch of the Pryor Portable Laser — the world's first portable laser marking machine that runs entirely on battery power, with no need for mains electricity or a compressed air supply.
We designed the Pryor Portable Laser for marking large, fixed, or hard-to-move components, the kind of job where taking the part to a fixed workstation simply isn't an option. Previous portable laser systems have always required either a power cable, a compressed air line, or both, which limits where they can actually be deployed. Ours needs neither.
A single charge provides a full day of operation. Where a mains socket is available, the machine can charge while in use. It's manageable for a single operator to transport and set up on site.
Despite being cordless, the machine carries Class 1 laser safety certification, the highest classification available. This means it can be used in open industrial environments without protective eyewear or additional screening. Safety is managed through a vacuum and mechanical interlock: the laser won't fire unless the marking head has formed a confirmed sealed contact with the workpiece surface. It can't be overridden manually; it's built into every marking cycle.
A 3-inch display screen on the marking head gives operators a live preview of the mark, interlock status, and programme data without needing to refer to a separate controller.

To handle the variety of surfaces found on industrial components, pipes, castings, flat plate, round bar, we've built in an interchangeable mask system. Each mask creates the reliable contact the safety interlock requires on a specific surface geometry. Masks are available for flat, curved, and cylindrical surfaces, as well as specialist configurations with integrated clamping for repeatable positioning.
The laser is a 30W pulsed fibre unit, capable of marking steel, stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, and most engineering alloys. Two field sizes are available: 70 x 70mm and 100 x 100mm. The machine runs on our MarkMaster 4.0 software, which handles layout, serialisation, data management, and integration with production systems. An optional pre-loaded laptop is available for operators who need a fully self-contained setup.
The Portable Laser is designed and built in Sheffield,Yorkshire, continuing a tradition of precision engineering that the city has been known for over generations. Yorkshire & British-made quality, built for demanding industrial environments worldwide.
We see the Portable Laser suited to structural steelwork, pressure vessels and pipework, castings and forgings, vehicles and rolling stock, and maintenance marking on installed equipment, as well as manufacturers who mark across multiple sites and need a solution that can go where the work is.
