Pryor has received two new accolades at the Made in Yorkshire 2020 manufacturing awards.

Pryor received two awards for its leading traceability solutions at the Made in Yorkshire 2020 manufacturing awards.

Held in Leeds city centre, the awards ceremony featured some of Yorkshires top businesses. Award winners will go on to compete at Insider Media's Made in the UK Awards final later this year.

The first win of the evening for Pryor was the Digital Engineering/Technology Award, for its Traceability Software.

The software logs a unique ID for each manufactured component, enabling full manufacturing data, part history and service life to be stored.

Designed by an in-house team of developers at the companies historic Sheffield headquarters, Pryor traceability software works with Pryor’s range of marking technologies to apply a unique ID to each component. This enables manufacturers to track a component within a finished product, at any point in its lifecycle. Each individual part can be scanned, revealing everything about its history – raw material, where and when it was manufactured, with what machine tool and in what ambient conditions. “Big Data” is instantly accessible at whatever level of granularity the customer desires.

Furthermore, if a quality escape is identified during production, the affected components can be specifically located – no need to ground a fleet of aircraft of recall millions of vehicles, the impacted parts can be located. This is a huge step up from the traditional level of manufacturing traceability which rarely extends beyond marking a finished product with its date of manufacture. Not only does this software package give quality and production savings to OEMs, component suppliers are able to offer it to their customers as a clear value add proposition to help them win and retain business.

The second accolade of the evening awarded to Pryor, is Manufacturer of the Year (under £25m), sponsored by Michael Page Engineering & Manufacturing.

Pryor's recent performance has been described as phenomenal by the judges. In the financial period of April 2018 to April 2019, Pryor recorded the highest ever group turnover in its 170-year history. Three key factors for this success are the establishment of an Automation Division, a USA subsidiary and the re-shoring of all production, back to the company’s historic headquarters in Sheffield city centre.

Pryor has been able to expand its R&D department and is now accommodating both an apprenticeship and a university placement student to feed future additional expansion. Profitable growth has allowed Pryor to run multiple apprenticeships, which are essential for replacing core skills as some Pryor employees retire over the next 2- 5 years. Pryor’s French subsidiary is also benefitting from the establishment of an Automation Division, being able to offer solutions to an expanded customer base, as manufacturers switch to digital and automated production.
